Order "The Hole in the Wall Gang Cookbook" today! In 1987, five years after the inception of Newman's Own, Inc., Paul Newman was inspired to use some of the profits from the company to establish a camp for children suffering from cancer, leukemia, and other serious blood diseases. The first Hole in the Wall Gang Camp came to be in Connecticut. Sister camps now exist in Florida, New York, Illinois, Ireland and France. The Hole in the Wall Gang Cookbook is dedicated to the 7,000 children who attend these camps each year. The book is designed for families to have fun together among the pots and pans. The recipes from from Paul Newman, his family and friends as well as winners of the Newman's Own/Good Housekeeping recipe contest in the School and children's category. The recipes are kid-pleasing and are sure to delight even the pickiest eaters! From soups and chilis, sandwiches, and pizzas to main courses, vegetables, side dishes, snacks and desserts. Friends of Newman again contributed their recipes; Harry Belafonte's Sloppy Joe Shortcakes, that Harry modies with grond turkey or chicken sauce served atop a hot buttered biscuit. Julia Roberts shares her Baked Potato Soup and Tim Robbins dishes up his Crunchy Oven Fried Snapper Fillets -- firm, white fish rolled in crushed cornflakes and baked. One of the award winning recipes from the contest included in The Hole in the Wall Gang Cookbook include The Lord's Dish...Or Somebody Up There Likes Me Pizza from the students at the Mount St. Vincent Home for Children in Denver. In between the recipes and photos of Newman and friends, are poems and letters from Hole in the Wall Gang campers that will bring perspective to kids with good health, and bring hope to those who are suffering. I'm sure that every child and adult who cooks from The Hole in the Wall Gang Cookbook will be infected by the spirit of hope, love and courage as they explore the mouth-watering pages. Remember, proceeds from this book go directly to the Hole in the Wall Gang Fund. Here is a recipe that all children will love from The Hole in the Wall Gang CookBook, by Paul Newman and A.E. Hotchner, Published by Simon & Schuster 1998 Lemonade provides the zing in the sauce for these chicken wings. Serve them warm with rice as a meal, or at room temperature as a snack. 2 tablespoons olive oil 1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. 2. To make the sauce: In a small saucepan, heat the oil and butter over medium heat until the butter is melted. Add the shallots and rosemary, and cook for 2 - 3 minutes. 3. Add the lemonade, pepper, and salt. Simmer over low heat for 6 - 8 minutes, until slightly reduced and syrupy. Set aside to cool. 4. To cook the chicken: Cut each chicken wing into 3 parts. Cut the wings apart at the joints with a heavy-duty kitchen scissors or use a sharp knife with a stiff blade, inserting the blade between the bones to cut the joint apart. Throw away the wing tips, which don't have much meat on them. 5. Place the wing pieces in a shallow ovenproof pan or dish and coat well with the sauce. 6. Bake until the skin is golden brown, about 30 minutes. Makes 20 - 24 pieces. Copyright © 2006 Ann Hall Every, CCP |
